We purchased a Winnebago, 30BE and want to tow our late model Chevy equinox. The dealer estimated price for a Blue Ox towing system, complete, is $4,500. That seems high to me. Your thoughts? Thanks.
We just paid $900 to have a base plate installed ( including all parts ) and got a Roadmaster Sterling tow bar on CL in excellent shape for $350, which has integrated wiring, and all cables/ attachments. Add a portable brake assist, ( brake buddy, etc. ) for around a grand... $2350.00 Sounds pretty darn expensive to me. Our intstaller offered an Air Force One system, installed, for $1500. So even with that.. Less than $3k I would do a little shopping
You could save a little money by purchasing a used tow bar, but might have a difficult time buy a used base plate. We went with the SMI StayNPlay system which I really like, nothing in the way of your feet that you have to move around when you want to drive the dinghy.
Back about 5 years ago, I got a cost of around 3500.00 with new Brake Buddy. I found a used Blue Ox Aventa, used Brake Buddy, all wiring, installation and new baseplate for 1,800.00 from a nearby dealer.
IMO, if it includes supplemental braking system, wiring, istallation and baseplateprobably about right. Safety cables also should be included.
