Cost to Repair/Replace Power Gear Jack

One of the jacks is leaking fluid. I was told by one RV repair place that they did not repair those jacks, would only replace them. Sounds a bit extreme, since a replacing the seals should fix the problem (to my non-mechanical mind). Has anyone had a Power Gear jack repaired or replaced, and if so, what was the cost?

  • Took mine off,I think 6 or 8 bolts and hydro line. went to a hydraulic repair shop and they repaired (new seals) while I waited for 150.00. Reinstalled and is good as new. Not a major job at all.

Funny how some people can do that and some people would cancel all trips for a year because of it. :B

I need to replace one of jacks (Pretzled it, no possibility of a rebuild)

Turns out the job may involve dropping the blanged gas tank Yup, they put the bolts in just exactly the wrong place.

  • Good point. I'll try my usual repair guy first - he's been very good to me - and take it from there.

  • Most RV shops won't repair, instead they'll charge you $1500 for one new one.

Find a hydraulic repair shop and ask them about rebuilding. It's just a hydraulic cylinder, how many times are those rebuilt on construction and farm equipment? We had all 4 rebuilt. They hydraulic shop wouldn't remove and re-install, so we had another mechanic do that. Total I think was under $800.
  • Found seal replacement kits on-line for from $50 to $130. Don't know which jack I have - will check it out when it gets light outside. So it looks like I'm facing that amount plus the labor.
