I remember when the first grocery store put in gas pumps in my home county back in the early 70s, and the gas stations across the street started carrying milk and bread - and advertising you could get in and out in less than 5 min.
Costco certainly doesn't have the cars parking at the pumps while folks go inside issue. One reason they (and Sams and Walmart) locate their pumps as far from the store entrance as possible on the property.
But the reality is that for places like QT, RaceTrac, Roadrunner, etc - the sales of the snacks, sodas, coffee and such makes more money and more profit than the sale of gasoline or diesel.
Those items run a gross profit of 100-150%, while fuel runs a gross profit of under 10%.
