Don't understand why all the hub bub about diesels going in the shop frequently. I'm on my fourth one and other than a recall to get a computer reflash and a recall on an airbag they have never seen the service bay.
03 Dodge: had it for about two years. Bought with 147k and sold with 193k. Lots of nickel and dime stuff. Still have some parts lying around I should have sent with it.
08 Silverado: My daily driver. Bought with 68k. Now has 144k. Runs good. First year of recycle in the exhaust with diesel so mileage is poor but still over 12.5. It's a work truck and it's paid for.
12 Silverado: had it for about two years. Bought with 92k and traded with 112k. Ran great!
15 Silverado: my camping truck. Bought new. Had about 2.5 years so far. 24k miles. Granted I get about nine mpg loaded but I pull a 45 ft toy hauler too. Empty 50 mile average at Yellowstone park speeds (45ish) was 34.5 mpg. I was surprised too.
Have a recall for an airbag for the 08 that will probably never get done. They never have the parts to fix. Oh well.
I like the diesels much better.
