For those of you on coumadin, ask your doctor about the testing devices. They now make a device that works very similar to the blood glucose device. You prick yourself, put a drop of blood in the device, then wait for the INR. Your doctor will give you a chart with ranges and how much coumadin to take, etc. Course, you still work closely with your doctor, but it means you don't have to go in for the monthly checks. It was the size of the glucometer.
When they first came out with the machines, our cardiologist was not in favor of them because they had a high rate of error. But years later, he said those problems had been resolved and he would allow DH to use one.
As it turned out, when he went through cancer treatment, he had to suspend the coumadin and they determined that he no longer needed it.
But some of you might benefit from it.
