- VulcaneerExplorerPhil was addressing the moral decay in America. And he quoted a biblical passage to support his opinion. I happen to agree with him, on both. He was talking about beastality, adultery, and the "G and L" words.
I do not understand those that say, "It's their choice. Let them be." It is that kind of attitude that allows for the advancement of moral decay.
As far as Cracker Barrel goes, I go there and buy food. They deliver good food. I pay them the price they ask. I leave satisfied. Great business deal. If they have products I do NOT want, I do not buy them. Pretty simple, really. - IroverExplorer

I have no strong opinion except that I get upset when I see people constantly trying to hack away at our constitutional freedoms, Freedom of Speech being right up there. Seriously, if you say something outside of work that you believe for religious or political reasons should your boss be able to fire you?
One more thing, I see people bending over backwards to accommodate religions such as Islam, that's nice. Why can't we accommodate the Biblical beliefs of Christianity too? Aren't we a country that was founded on religious freedom?
:C This is exactly what a lady in the RV office and I were were discussing. If we tolerate others viewpoints; why can't they tolerate our views. It starts from the Oval Office down the line! Irover - DakzukiExplorer

Geeze all this over a redneck tv character's ignorance.
What ignorance? He speeks what the overwhelming majority of people believe but are afraid to say!
From Yahoo
"Robertson's defenders should read his comments again, because their defenses are off-point. If you're defending Robertson, here's what you're defending:
Robertson thinks black Americans were treated just fine in the Jim Crow-era South, and that they were happy there. " I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues."
Robertson thinks the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor because they didn't believe in Jesus. "A ll you have to do is look at any society where there is no Jesus. I’ll give you four: Nazis, no Jesus. Look at their record. Uh, Shintos? They started this thing in Pearl Harbor. Any Jesus among them? None. Communists? None. Islamists? Zero. That’s eighty years of ideologies that have popped up where no Jesus was allowed among those four groups. Just look at the records as far as murder goes among those four groups."
Robertson hates gay people. Robertson in 2010: " Women with women, men with men, they committed indecent acts with one another, and they received in themselves the due penalty for their perversions. They’re full of murder, envy, strife, hatred. They are insolent, arrogant, God-haters. They are heartless, they are faithless, they are senseless, they are ruthless. They invent ways of doing evil.""
My parents came to this great country in the late 1950s. They were disgusted at how blacks were treated in the south (where they lived for a while). Apparently Mr Robertson hadn't noticed. That defines his ignorance. - spoon059Explorer II

Like I said in the disappeared thread... Freedom of speech is protection from government limiting your speech. This isn't a case of government limiting speech. This is a private company (A&E) penalizing an employee (Phil Robertson) for speaking his mind. First amendment has NOTHING to do with this argument.
That being said, I agree with your second paragraph. - Oregon_MsExplorerYou know what? You lose me when you proclaim what is in a persons mind based on what Yahoo thinks. That said, preachers lose me when they tell me what God thinks. Too many mind readers out there.
Just don't use your petty arguments to try to try to diminish my constitutional freedoms.
Thank you. - pitchExplorer IIWell I don't believe he said anything like that. He said that the black folks that he worked with were a godfearing happy group. He made no statement any broader than that. Others chose the expansion.
I think that the lgbt community mistakes the acceptance of their rights as endorsement of their lifestyle. WRONG in my case at least. I don't choose to put my values in the way of your life choice, but that does not mean I relinquish my values. - kevdenExplorer

He was free to, and did speak, there can be consequences from that speech however as there can be with all of us. Unreality TV has little to do with real life and an individual who plays a hick, with a masters degree, is about as unreal as it gets.
He may well not know that he knows LGBT folks, lack of familiarity breads contempt, and as the Pope said "who am I to judge". It is not our job, the Bible is very explicit concerning that.
from the GQ interview:
As far as Phil is concerned, he was literally born again. Old Phil—the guy with the booze and the pills—died a long time ago, and New Phil sees no need to apologize for him: “We never, ever judge someone on who’s going to heaven, hell. That’s the Almighty’s job. We just love ’em, give ’em the good news about Jesus—whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists. We let God sort ’em out later, you see what I’m saying?”

All these people were public figures, involved with the public, elected by them, or were on TV. Imus lost his job over the "nappy headed" comment, A lady TODAY was fired over an AIDS comment. This Phil person is being OKAYED by the redneck and Conservative groups. Double standard....you betcha!
We people who are offended are not jumping at the switch but with all the country aliened even by people that "bullying", with race, with so many other positions that if the public or group is hurt it now is proper to deal with it. This isn't a contest it is called the right thing to do. - moonlightrunnerExplorerI think some of you need to go back and read what everyone has written. Aparently it's PC to say derogatory remarks about people who were born, raised and lives a certain lifestyle. Especially if those same people call another group of people with a certain lifestyle derogatory names.
