Cruise Control?

I have a 2012 Chevy 3500 SRW Duramax/Allison and I'm wondering about use of cruise control. I hear a lot of conflicts on this on whether it damages the TV or not. I usually have some interstate travel where it would be great just to set it. I get on hills you don't want the transmission to hunt, but on most small grades mine doesn't shift that often anyway (it is an incredible machine!)

I did a search and couldn't find any good threads (at least on the first 3 pages of results).

Advice? Experience?

  • I use it most of the time. Even in hills, unless it's a short steep hill where I know it will downshift if I don't cancel the CC, and losing a couple MPH is no big deal.

  • I use it when practical (e.g. until traffic). Even hills - unless the truck is shifting around, I'd use it (that and the exhaust brake on the downside).

It's the only way I can keep my speed down.
  • I could not use with my previous TV as it struggled too much and would shift to often trying to keep up with the programed speed. But with my f350, our first trip towing I tried it out and it was great and help speed nicely. Just another reason for getting more truck than you need. IMO!
