Dangerous flora and fauna by state

The most dangerous creature you will encounter will be other drivers. Relax and enjoy yourself.

Check out the game & fish department for the states your heading to. At least for the fuana. For example:

Don't forget ticks and Lyme disease.

Watch for poison ivy in TN. Anyone who thinks it's not dangerous has never had a good dose of it.

Wasps, bees, etc. are the usual. Especially big red wasps and bumblebees and hornets.

Plus rattlesnakes, water moccasins, copperheads, black bears (mainly dangerous if you get between them and their food or young) and in a few places, feral hogs.

Oh yeah... forgot the fire ants.

I never even thought much about these plants and shrubs until we moved to Arizona back in the 60s... Everything out there that was beautiful seemed to be poisoning. Then like TucsonJim says if that doesn't kill you then all of the Rattlesnakes, Scorpions, and Gila Monsters will.

The houses there all had the SWAMP COOLERs mounted on the roof and you had to climb up there to clean out the filters. The first thing you had to do was arm your self with Wasp Spray and kill out all of the black widow spiders haha... Uh they are wrong when they say you will only find one living together haha...

The Shurb plant we saw just about everywhere there was the Oleanders Shurb with the most beautiful flowers on them...

Never hear of anyone out there making sassafras tea from plant roots... The old rule of thumb was if the roots smell like old fashion root beer it will be good for making tea.

You can put in a specific zip code and find the flora and fauna in the area. Unless you are boondocking you really don't have much to worry about. When hiking, stay on the trail. Keep your pets on a leash and don't let them eat any leaves or bushes.

Don't try walking my yard. Rattlesnakes, Scorpions, Gila Monsters abound. And if they don't get you the killer bees or cactus will.

Seriously, just do a little research on the states you'll be visiting. If you're staying in RV parks, the chances of encountering any dangerous animals or plants are very remote.

Just thinking about all the stories I have heard about scorpions crawling into shoes and rattlesnakes crawling into sleeping bags and brown recluse spiders in woodpiles, etc. Here in western Oregon, we have very few poisonous critters, outside of bees and wasps. I realize most critters are more afraid of me than I am of them, but I'd just like to know if there are some of those guys I need to take special precautions for.
