I was using my smartphone with one of two apps (dailyroads and autogaurd pro) which worked well. But then I discovered the Cobra line of cameras that I could install permanently.
I now have two Corbra cams (one in my car, one in the wifes) one under 100 and one well over. They BOTH work GREAT.
Don't bother with the off brand names, and don't bother with the HD action cames like the GoPro. They are not made to be dash cams, they are too big, too expensive and most do not have LOOP RECORDING...a MUST have for dash cams. The off brands are really....REALLY crappy!
