That is a very good point about the different types of insurance involved in this type of business. My insurance company had a lot of questions about how I use my commercial truck. They were specifically concerned about whether or not I hauled/delivered items for hire. That was a different issue than what I do, which is just haul my own tools, equipment and materials to a job site to perform a service. I am not considered as a motor freight carrier and therefore did not need the US DOT motor carrier number, or CA DMV motor carrier number, when the truck was registered in CA. All I needed was a CA registered weight sticker, so the scales would know what weight I was registered for when I pulled through.
