Determining High Temp Settings for TPMS

So what rule of thumb does everyone use for determining the max temp setting for their TPMS. As I was setting my system this weekend it came to mind that tires high temp settings could fluctuate by tire just like each type of tire has a different pressure setting.

  • My TPMS system from TST has a min. temp setting at 158 F degrees. You can set it higher if you want but I leave it set at 158.

Wish I could set mine lower.
Coming back from Hunting Island July 4 weekend, I was keeping a close watch on temps since mine is a new system.

Outside temps were about 90 and tire temps never above 105, and that was on the sun side.

  • So the high temperature limit tells you when the tire is over 150F degrees or something so that you can check it for a stuck brake cylinder? That is a great idea.

It would also alarm if the hub bearings where stuck from not being lubed properly. I would guess that 150 would be a 'normal' temperature and set off the alarm when nothing is wrong, while 175 might not happen until there is a bearing failure starting to happen, or brakes hanging up.
