Dicor lap sealant or Eternabond tape for new roof vent

My 24 years old 32' 5er has had nothing but Dicor added when the OEM sealant needed help or replacing. The trailer was 4 year old when a crack formed in the skylite over the bed. I replaced it with a vent. I used the grey butyl tape like OEM first. Removed the squeeze out butyl then added Dicor over the scr heads and joint. Haven't touched it since.

I helped a neighbor replace Eternabond on his roof (around two skylites) that some newb had poorly applied. I would never add Eternabond over screw heads. Its a bitzh to remove even when poorly applied.

Having worked on RV and mobilehome mostly roof mfg/repair previously I would never add Eternabond over screw heads. Great stuff for hole repair or repairing long tears in roofing material.

2x on opnspaces opinion.

I would put Dicor under the vent and then Eternabond it. Then just don't drive under any low branches.

I would use Eternabond if it is possible. I've got Eternabond around everything on my trailer roof - but when I replaced the Fantastic Fan with a Maxxair Fan in my class B - couldn't use it. I don't remember for sure, but it had something to do with the mounting bolt heads - I think they were too big and high - so the Eternabond just wasn't working. Dicor worked great in that instance.

If it was mine and the flange went down nice and smooth, I would use self leveling Dicor

I have a fiberglass roof membrane and I have used 4" Eternabond tape with excellent results. I am a Eternabond believer.Once you touch the tape to the roof surface it better be in the correct location, because it is somewhat un-forgiving
Applied 12 years ago to my roof vents and never a leak.

Pro's and con's to everything, Dicor is easy to replace, but you have to keep an eye on it and do maintenance. Tape will last a long time, but is extremely hard to remove without hurting the roof liner. I use the dicor and do the maintenance, but carry the tape incase of an emergency.
