Diesel fuel question

Question about diesel fuel in the USA.
In Canada I only see one choice at the pump. This is my first diesel, a 2012 F350, and I know there are at least two choices south of me.
Headed to Seattle Monday for a week via Montana, Idaho, and maybe Oregon.
Thanks all
Rob

  • Looks like I am looking for #2 ULSD and have the option to go to B20 based on badge on truck.

What you saw was probably #2, B5,B10,B20. Those are #2 with bio diesel added. I wouldn't be concerned.

You may not be concerned but not all diesels can run all Bio mixes. My 6.4 can only run #2 and B5.
  • ive been running nothing but a bio blend and so far no problems. we could really get into it with additives here also. I run 2 stroke oil(ashless) and power services with every tank.

2 stroke oil from walmart tc3 in a small blue bottle.
power services in a silver bottle(I just buy the small and add whole thing per tank)

good luck. whenever I have to get fuel from unknown areas I will carry extra fuel filters. :)

  • Purchase #2 (ULSD)

Don't use any 'dyed' diesel (off-road).........big fines

And DON'T make mistake that handles are 'color coded'.....ALWAYS READ SIGNS
  • At a new Flying J in Montana I saw one pump that had at least 4 different diesel selections on it. Wish I would of taken a picture.
  • As mentioned there are rural stations that offer (untaxed) "off road" diesel for farm equipment and such. Years ago I remember encountering pumps with a choice between #1 and #2 diesel but I haven't seen that lately. These days stations in colder climates pre blend as needed.

So, I'm not sure what you mean? If you go to the same stations I do you will only have one choice.
  • Some of the more rural stations will sell "non-highway" diesel for use in farm machinery. It's clearly marked and usually dyed red.

Pretty sure the west coast mostly sells #2 diesel.
