We are heading out this weekend on our first trip towing our CRV. I was thinking about the ignition key in the CRV today and what people typically do when they stop for a period of time. We are planning on stopping at a Cabela's on the way and wondering if I should be concerned leaving the ignition key in the CRV while we are inside. It seems like a thief who understands a towing setup could easily steal the car while you are away. Is this a concern or am I overthinking this whole issue?

We remove the key from our toad if we are doing more than filling up. Leaving the MH & toad for any reason other than a few minutes means locking everything up, no sense in tempting the honest people.

I would not leave the key in the ignition.Remove the key. Just don't forget to put it back in when you leave.

I bought a spare key from the dealer without the chip in it, it will do everything except start the car. dealer said they sell a lot of them.

We use an unchipped key that I cut most of the head off of and painted the remaining portion flat black. I drilled a hole in it, and we use a small 'S' hook to remove it. When in place in the black keyhole, the key is virtually invisible to anyone looking in.
