We've been towing our '98 5spd Outback for about 10 years without problems. I haven't seen anything that they were changing that would preclude the manual transmission Subaru's from being towed 4 down. But I wished that our 2008 Trebca was towable (5spd automatic). Sounds like a CYA thing.
