Discount camping

Can anyone explain the difference between Passport America and Happy Camper Club if any. Do they both have the typical black out times? I am familiar with Passport America but not happy Camper Club.
Thanks

  • My PA paid for itself on my 1st trip with it. Would have saved more if I remembered to ask about it more often.

We have more than saved the membership fee. We have found the passport campgrounds vary just as any others do. We have never stayed in one which we would not stay in again. All have been acceptable. I can't say the same for several other non passport cg over the years.

wow quit the authority and matter of fact, but it seems to work well for a lot of others, including myself for many years, and never a single year that it didn’t pay for itself, usually in one stay...
  • Differences....

    Happy Camper....$40/yr
    PA.....$44/yr

    PA.....more affiliate CG's

Camp Grounds decide how to use either discount program.....restrictions/limits etc.
  • I used the Good Sam directory to find most of my campgrounds. Many offered a 10% discount for membership. Saved me $ 75-100.
  • PA has more campground listings than HCC (1800+ vs 1200+), but they do have similar usage restrictions as set by the individual campgrounds. Keep in mind that about the only incentive a campground has to accept these club cards is as a draw to fill empty sites that might otherwise bring in no revenue for the period. On weekends and other common blackout days when the campground is more active with full rate paying campers, there's little need to entice deep discount travelers.
