Dish Network On The Road

Hope this helps....for exact dimensions try going to a site thatt sells them.

Pretty small though and easily stored.

We have a van. How big is the Tailgater Room is a huge issue for us.

I agree with KeithAS, even though I have never done it that way. Dish does not know where you are. In fact, the only reason to update your Service Address is so you can get local channels. If you don't care about locals, no need to update. Note that Service Address is where you're camping. Billing Address is your mailing address. I also use the chat function to make changes.

Dish has two sets of satellites - eastern arc and western arc. I have a Winegard Pathway X2 and one of the main reasons I chose it is because it will access either set. This helps immensely when in a CG with lots of trees as one set may be blocked but the other may be open. As an example, the Tailgater does not have this feature. Also, the antenna on the X2 is an inch larger then the Tailgater. Bigger is better when shooting through leafs and branches. Nothing against the Tailgater - people that have them say it works great.

Last - I use the dishformyrv satellite finder app ($10) to find the satellites before I set up the portable. It uses the camera on your IPhone (only) and projects 2 sets of 3 red balls into the sky, corresponding to the locations of the 2 sets of Dish satellites. Then you can set your portable in the best place for reception. Been using this app for 3 years, fulltiming, and it has saved me lots of time. Remember, these portables are automatic, but they still gotta be able to see the satellites.

We're getting ready to do some traveling with an automatic antenna, a Dish compatible receiver, & etc. and want to set up the Dish Pay As You Go plan. I know I need to contact someone with Dish to get things going but, there is a number for Dish, a number for DishForMy RV, and then Winegard has a Dish activation number. Also, there must be hundreds of re-sellers out there who would be more than happy to take your money to do the set up.


Who did you call for the initial Pay As You Go set up and account?

I dealt only with Dish. I saw no need to use a middle man.

You will need to have your Billing address (home ?), and your service address (current location) for them. Also a credit card (I do auto-pay). You should already have picked out the Dish plan you want. And they will want to know the serial number that is located on the card inserted into the front of the receiver box.

I am saving my pennies. This is definitely expensive to get started with the equipment. I spoke to someone at Beaver's Bend in Oklahoma that said he found a set used. I hope I am that fortunate.

Since I've had DISH network at home since it was invented, I added an in motion satellite receiver on the roof of my 'C'. Stupid. For starters, I'm a single RVer, so I can't watch TV when I'm driving. Also, the DISH has to have a clear shot at the satellite, so no trees in the CG that blocks transmission. Besides, I overnight at CGs with water, electric, sewer and cable. I'd remove it, but there's a rather large hole in the roof for the wiring.
I thought that I'd at least get some use from it when I took a 4 month round trip to Alaska. But the curvature of the earth ruined that. So its still up there, but all it does is seal up the hole in the roof.
