There is a little something called the Flag Code. Not a law but a guideline. it is how we respect our flag.
Lighting after dark is part of it
NO use of the flag as clothing (Though for Military and selected civilian (Police, fire, ems) a Flag Patch is ok.
Position of the flag when flown with other flags
position of flag when hung on a wall or from a messenger cable (A wire or rope cable runing across a road) as opposed to a flag pole
Position of flag on pole
Disposal of old worn or torn flag
Flag not to touch the ground
ANd so on.
Look it up. Use your favorite search engine to find it.
