Do coiled power cords heat up and cause fires?

I have used electric cords of all sizes and shapes and lengths coiled and never had any problem with any of them catching fire.... ever .... in all my 60 years of life. I have had wall sockets spark and catch fire, but never the cord!

I have had cords over heat, only because the AMP draw on them exceeded the cords capacity, even stretched out straight. I've had the 30-20 amp hockey puck adapters melt on me before, but never did the cord catch fire. Never.
