I believe the loss in Tennessee based on location will likely result in it being a terrible accident only. Nor do I feel that a few extra feet of stopping distance due to supplemental braking would have saved this poor officer. Then again, speed can certainly change the results and liability, if it turns out that speed was a factor.
Speed, attentiveness, condition of equipment and human error all play a role. I drive slowly and with my coach to toad ratio, I feel it is not necessary to have an additional device, (in addition to the fact that the law does not require one). Ask your insurance company in an email and then keep a copy when they tell you it is not required, and you will have it in writing, (I have done this from my coach insurance and my umbrella policy). May I add here, if you choose to have a supplemental system, I support you completely, but you still need to drive responsibly.
It is sad to see so many going so fast and driving so unsafely with little to no consideration for others on the road. The destination is the goal, but the journey is a lot of fun too! Leave a little earlier and go a little slower please! God bless everyone and all our first responders!
