Do you Adjust your WDH When You Drive With a Full Water Tank

I sometimes camp where there are hookups and sometimes where there is not and I have to haul water.

Obviously that makes a big difference in the weight of your trailer, and how it is distributed.

I set up my WDH with my water tank about 3/4 full. That is like 500 pounds of water I think.

Should I re-adjust my WDH when I tow with the water tank empty?

thanks

  • I screw mine down 2-3 extra turns when the water tank is full, but I have a toy hauler with the fresh water tank at the extreme front so the weight has more effect than most where the tanks are near the wheels and so they lack leverage. For me even with full waste tanks no adjustment is needed given they are near the wheels.
  • If adjustment is easy and if you see more sag from the extra weight, then sure, adjust it.
  • Depends on the trip.

If we're headed for the desert with all the toys, and full of water, then I'll set it up one way.

If to the mountains (no toys, no water), I'll load a bunch of "stuff" forward of the axles to balance the trailer, and change the number of links on the WDH.
