Do you carry extra fuel

We do a lot of driving at over night and on our trip last year I almost ran out of diesel because a couple of gas station were closed and the ones that were open didn't have diesel. I try to plan our stops were I can get diesel but we all know how plans sometimes go. So that got me thinking about have 5 gallons of diesel in can in the back of my truck secured obviously but along for the ride in case it is needed. Anyone else do this?

  • Even towing I can go 300+ miles between fillups. That's 6 hours conservative towing. I just don't see a need to carry more weight with extra fuel.
  • Sometimes......
    Wait, what was the question?
Oh, yes carry some fuel if you feel you may need it.

IF you are going to carry spare fuel, it should be used up every 6 months to a year or so just to keep it fresh.

Same thing goes for the main tank actually. If you do mostly short trips, you should resist the temptation to fill up when it's only down a quarter.
  • I took out my stock 29 or 31 gallon diesel tank and replaced it with a 51gallon Titan Fuel Tank.. It was one of the best things I did..
It sits in the exact same place as the stock tank and the full size spare still fits also...
  • I don't and thought I wanted to when I bought my truck 8 years ago. I even bought a yellow can, but never filled it. I've never had a problem finding diesel. I guess it depends on where you travel. Maybe in the desert.
