Everybody talks about how important it is to have goals, but I disagree. A goal has to be specific, measurable, and has a deadline. (For example, retire at 60 years old with x dollars in the bank) ...

When I was 17 I set my sights on retiring at 50. Did it at 49 and have been fulltiming the 14 years since. Never had a specific plan as to how to get there, just knew that I would.
Our only 2 requirements are that we be somewhere warm and we eat well. Everything else is more or less serendipity. We very rarely plan further than tomorrow. More often we decide what we'll do today, after breakfast.
