When I was 17 I set my sights on graduating from high school and only made it by the skin of my teeth (1.5gpa). I did NOT set smart goals, back at that age when I should've. Growing up as an only child I had no further goals after that, college was not going to be my thing, and I had a job that actually back then paid pretty good. I could afford my old car and I had a girlfriend, so life was good…. Then along came real life…. The draft notice, all this discussion about exactly what is a goal, aim or objective is exactly why I don't set goals. Whenever I set one something changes it that is outside of my control. I think many people, like me (66), stumble through life and then wonder what happened. I kind of had a plan when I got to 40 that I could retire at 50, but then the 5 rental houses I invested in, in a town that was just right, basically closed down, no one could afford to live there without jobs and they moved in mass numbers and the houses went to auction and I lost my shorts. Then I said OK, I will work until I am 62 then retire, and the wife and I will travel maybe fulltime with the MH, then she says a couple of years later, OH NO, I don’t want to fulltime, maybe just for a week at the most, I have to take care of my garden and watch the grand kids (who have all but moved away), but the garden comes before traveling. So that goal/plan, has been taken off the burner. So my next plan that will most likely also fail is to live to be 105, and then be shot by a jealous husband while I make love to his 30 year old wife….hehe
