Do you RV without your significant other?

I'd like to hear from couples who don't always RV together. Why do you do it? Do you take any additional steps due to being on the road alone, like checking in?

My story: DH an I have been hoping to snowbird someday. He is gone for work for a couple of months in the spring and fall. Rather than sit home alone, I think I'd like to slowly work my way south with the RV in the fall. DH could fly down and meet me, and we'd enjoy warmer locales together for a few months. In the spring he'd fly home to work, and I'd take a month to slowly make my way home in the RV. However, now that it's time to make reservations for next winter, DH isn't comfortable with me heading out alone or going places where I know no one. So, we're somewhere in between dreams and plans right now.

I am very comfortable traveling, and being on my own. I have made RV trips without him closer to home, for a few days at a time, and even had to trouble shoot a few issues. Honestly, I know far more about our RV and its equipment than DH does, even if I do think a screwdriver is something you drink. That's part of DH's concern.

Anyway, I'd be interested in hearing from others who hit the road with someone back home.

  • I'd say that if your comfortable doing it alone to go for it. I notice folks alone at CG's sometimes. I don't know their stories but they seem to be enjoying themselves.
  • Verizon has the best coverage but your mileage may differ. You may be able to call ahead about cell coverage. Also there are various cell amplifiers/antennas that can help with weak cell signals. Wilson is one of the best.
  • Thanks, Oasisbob. You bring up a good point: cell phone dead zones. Daily contact would be important for us, so I should think about getting somewhere with a cell signal or wifi daily. Phone booths have gone the way of the dinosaur, but maybe it's possible to use a land line phone with a prepaid long-distance card??? Hmmm....
  • Nice to be loved and know someone is concerned for you. I am blind so do not drive. However, my wife will take the kids and I within a fifty mile radius of our house and drop us and the trailer at a campground. And she always comes bacik to pick us up which is nice. LOL We have done this for years. We call or text if possible daily. But with T Mobile this is often not reliable. You will probley be fine. Go for it
