My truck is a Florida rig, no hills. Now 3 weeks away from a cross country trip and really considering adding the exhaust brake... Will be heading across the Rockys going from SD to San Fran... So am I being over cautious? Really don't want to drop this much on this truck until I know it's a long term marriage.

Appreciate your help.
I would question the cost! $2,600 is a chunk of change. I installed a Packbrake on my 01 for about $1,400, took about 4 hours, in my drive way.
That said, I use it daily, and very seldom touch the service brakes in the hills. You don't need to creep down long grades, in upper gears the sweet rumble of the EB, as I roll with traffic, if I need to slow more I just drop a gear, or tap the brakes.
