Do you tow a Chevy Spark?

We are condidering a Spark as a toad. Any problems you can make us aware of?
We know the manual transmission is towable We're just looking for any insight from personal experience. Thanks.
  • We own a 2013 Spark, manual trans. Paid $9999 brand new.
Not a toad, but everyday driver.
If anyone is interested, the dealer we bought our car from has NEW 2016 Sparks for $10999/ man trans.
Google Airport Chevrolet in Medford Oregon.
  • Hello,
We own a 2014 spark. Auto transmission. We have had no real issues with the car other than the AC is not real strong. We have a small Class C and I am considering a tow dolly for our spark. I will say we like the gas mileage and are very happy with the car overall. I think towing on dolly will be very easy.
  • Thanks for all the replies.
We were only consicering the gas Spark. The electric spark isn't towable. But it's nice to hear it was a good drive.
  • I drove an electric spark at my work. It was kinda small, but mileage was fantastic! It never needed any gas! I would drive it to go pick up parts, and usually the max distance was only about 20 miles roundtrip.

The electric one has about a 75 mile range. They do make a 120 volt charger, as well as the more permanent 220 volt charger. Charge locations are showing up in a lot of places out west. My boss has a electric spark, and will drive it to the coast, more than 85 miles, and he stops at a Casino along the way, stays for about 2 hours to get a good recharge from their 220 volt charger. Cost is only about $2 to refill the battery 50%.

The boss has a home in Lincoln City, as well as Portland OR. So he can charge in either location, as well as some car chargers at my work.

    Good luck,

    Fred.
  • The Toyota Yaris is flat towable with the manual, weighs less than 100 lbs. more than the Spark and has a much better reliability and resale record.

I would buy a Yaris 10 times over the Spark.
  • This would be a second car for us, in addition to being the dinghy. We'll definetly look into the baseplate. Thanks for the reply.
  • We drove a Spark as a rental once and when we went looking for a new car to tow thought about getting one. When we found it had to be a manual we passed as the wife don't do manual. Opted instead for the Sonic. I have no issue with the car albeit a bit underpowered but I've never met a small 4 cyl non turbo, automatic with AC that wasn't.

Also, before you buy make sure the vendor you want for the base plate has one for your choice of year, car.
  • Can't respond to towing a Spark, but my granddaughter has one which she likes a whole lot. I am not so sure it is a well built vehicle, and I would not have endorsed the purchase if asked. I now keep my mouth shut! It is very small, extremely under powered, and uncomfortable. As a tow vehicle, it may be ideal-small, lightweight, and can be towed 4 down.

I would seriously look at the Honda Fit, if it is towable, then it is a better choice.
