Does costco give discount off of posted fuel price.

So we were at Costco again today and once again noted that there was about a fourty five minute wait to get fuel again. We decided to swing the pump to see what the price was and it was 2,36.9. We swung by the Valero about 3 Km away and it was 2,38.9 with minimal line, maybe one car. Is there an additional discount at the Costco that we don't know about. These line ups are common. Just trying to figure out if these folks are waiting 40 minutes plus to save 60 cents.

Thanks in advance.
  • I used to work across the street from a Costco that sold gas and was always amazed at the number of vehicles lined up for 45 minutes + to get gas. Reminded me of the gas lines from the 70s. There was also a Valero on the corner whose prices were always within 5-10 cents of the Costco and they never had a line. You can't fix stupid!
  • a forty five minute wait to get gas is a good reason to drive electric cars. :)

no additional discount but get the Gas Buddy app and save yourself from running around to check gas prices.

Thanks for the tip. We both drive electric vehicles so instead we use an App called plug share...same idea but for charging station locations etc.

We have used gas buddy for diesel for the motorhome once or twice though although maneuvering room in the parking lot plays a big role in fuel station selection.

No, the price you see is the price member pay. There's no further discount.

Thanks. Very popular gas fill place. Maybe their gas has nitro in it. :)

Funny you should say that about adding something...
My neighbor always uses their gas and has had intermittent engine roughness and stalling problems for a couple of years. Mechanic finally figured out it was water in his gas and "claimed" that Cosco has a problem with this. We too, use Cosco premium in our Challenger SRT which sometimes idles rough for no apparent reason.
After he quit using their gas his problems went away.
So we quit using it as well and after using some HEAT to get rid of the water and running a couple of tanks of Chevron fuel through it, our Challenger runs silky smooth now too.
So we're done with Cosco gas - at least form the one in Woodenville Wa.
  • Fry's in AZ gives fuel discount but it's only good on the first 35 gallons. I've gotten up to $1 off per gallon. Nice deal when I'm filling up a 91 gallon diesel tank. Shame Costco doesn't have Diesel.
  • Answer is yes and no. No, you pay the posted price. However if you use your costco credit card you will get a 3 percent credit on fuel purchases as part of the annual credit you get on costco purchases.

  • When you buy groceries at Safeway you get discounts at their pumps. Most often 10 cents is the discount. Right across the street is a Circle K where the gas is usually at least that much less a gallon...yet you will have lines at Safeway and short or no lines at Circle K. And, of course, you are paying much more for groceries than at most grocery stores. Go figure. You can get a much bigger discount by accumulating points but then you are spending much more on groceries. Go figure.
