Dolly for a 2014 Honda Pilot

I have a 2014 Dynamax DX3. We want to start bringing a vehicle with us on the longer trips. The lighter of our two vehicles is a 2014 2WD Honda Pilot weighing 4,500 LBS. Looking at a KarKaddy SS. It says axel capacity is 3,500 lbs and towed vehicle weight is 4,700 lbs. Will this work for towing the pilot?
  • The dx3 with 20000 lb towing? Yup lol should work. I just bought a dolly so I'm a beginner. Take what I say and verify it. We were gonna tow an odyssey and there was no problem with vehicle. The capacity of dolly is just meant for half of vehicle so you should be fine that way. Kar kaddy is a good brand I believe. Really you should be ok as long as 2 wd pilot is front wheel drive.
  • I don't see any reason why it would not work.
I have an old (1980?) Demco Kar Kaddy that I use to tow a PT Cruiser convertible.
It worked fine from here to Georgia and back.
What does the front axle of the Honda weigh? That is the weight that will be on the dolly.
You have already established that the total weight is 200 pounds under the max towed weight for the dolly.
Keep in mind that those weight ratings are not the actual maximum working loads.
That does not mean that you have permission to exceed those ratings, it merely means that you can load a 4700 pound capacity dolly to 4700 pounds without worry. It will actually carry much more than that without breaking. How much more? Nobody knows but the engineers who designed it, and they won't tell!
  • Thanks for the advice. Yeah, having a DX3, I know that bad boy won't have an issue. After more investigation, I realized that the KarKaddy SS has a max tire width of 76" and the Pilot is 78.5 so it won't work. Looks like my only option is the Mastertow 80thd. Bummer.
  • Master tow is what I bought. Just brought it home and haven't towed a thing with it. I just wanted one with electric brakes.
