Why would does it hurt to be polite? When stopped any officer has three options of handling the incident precipitating the stop. Give the driver a warning and send him on his way. Give the offender a citation and send him on his way or the offender may choose door number three. Get your ass out the vehicle assume the position you're going to jail do not pass go do not collect $200 your car is also going to jail and your passengers just became pedestrians.

Went to court had watched about 20 other people in front of me plead their case. In each case 2 things happened - one - it was obvious that they had argued with the Florida Highway Patrol and second - guilty and here is your fine.
They called me up. My case took less than 5 seconds. The FHP looked at his notes and said, "I dont remember this." Judge "Dismissed."
The day I got the ticket I said a total of four words to the FHP. "Have a nice day." Nothing else. I gave the FHP nothing to remember our exchange.

Yup, the less you say the better. Be polite and respectful. Even if it hurts and you don't feel like being that way.
