Last trip to a provincial park, they were charging $9 a bundle for their firewood (a pack with 6 pieces of split wood in it). Didn't have a choice because they wouldn't allow any outside wood in. The first night, I discovered that the wood was still green and wouldn't burn.
The next day I visited the local supermarket and bought a product called "EnviroLOGS". A package which contained a log made of compressed cardboard and "natural products". It cost $3 and burned for 2.5 hours. It actually wasn't too bad of a fire. The package said they are safe to cook over, although I didn't try. I bought a few extra for our night. I used them to keep a flame burning under my green firewood purchased at the park. Sure a lot lighter than hauling fire wood and no worries about transporting bugs! The park ranger said there was no concerns bring them into the park.
