Parks didn’t make the rule and who knows what their cost is for the wood or where they got it from… do you really think their supplier thinks he should discount what he can get for his wood because you don’t want to pay for it… isn’t exploiting the market conditions to their benefit what the company selling the firewood vendor his saws, gasoline and oil is doing and that effects what he needs and wants for his product…
The prices may be high in your opinion but I can assure you no one is getting big bonuses or retiring from their firewood profits…
What some of you have called good and dry fire wood has money, time, space, and sweat invested for a long time and depending on the operation has each piece gets handled 6 to 8 times from forest to storage to retail sale to user and is transported 3 to 4 times from the forest to storage to CG or wood retailer near the CG to the fire ring…
Most of the prices I have seen would be more than a bargain for good dry wood… they would guarantee the seller wouldn’t be there many years…
Here is one fact… the act of maliciously spreading any of the know pest by someone’s selfish and uncaring act risking the betterment of the forest and my or my families present or future enjoyment perceived or real is so great, I am more than willing to report any violations that become known or suspected be me… and I am willing to volunteer my time and travel cost to anywhere in the country to testify against any violators I report…
Only if necessary, I would sadly support a ban on all wood fires if voluntary compliance isn’t achievable by the camping community…
I have never seen or been anywhere that didn’t allow any clean or certified clean wood from being brought into a CG… and almost every CG I have been to or drive by has local wood vendors selling local wood…
How come no one is naming the CG’s that allow no wood to brought in the CG even kiln dried wood??? how common is this really??? It seems pretty isolated to me…
If you bring wood from home and it a legal move you can self certify it in most states I believe…. Like CT…
