We borrowed against our paid-off-at-the-time home to buy a new RV. However, the equity in our house was 16 times what we had to borrow against it in order to pay for the RV. The interest rate for an RV loan would have been higher than the interest rate on the home loan we used to do this.
Debt free does not need to be the goal - a high inflow divided by outflow number combined with some asset equity should be the goal when it comes to enjoying life before it ends.
