Door insulation ideas?

Does anyone have ideas of how to insulate the trailer door in cold weather? Somehow, it needs to fit between the screen and outside door ( and stay there, without slipping). Thanks in advance for your ideas!

We always leave the main entry door open regardless of how hot or cold it may be outside, only close it when we turn in for the night. To prevent our dog from destroying the screening I installed clear Optix from Home Depot - both sides of the lower half of the door and the inside of the top half, along with a small piece on the outside for covering the slider area. The bottom pieces I screwed on as I found no need to remove them but the upper piece is secured with Velcro so I can remove it for more air flow in pleasant weather ... stores under the mattress when not in use. With these clear panels in place we can still see outside, in cold weather we don't lose all the heat, in hot weather we don't lose all the cold air from the A/C, and the screening is protected from our dog's paws. An effective but simple solution to both problems. :B

If camping in really cold below freezing weather or really hot humid weather in the summer just add a layer of Reflectix ... you won't be able to see out but it'll make an amazing difference in stabilizing the trailer's interior temperature. :)
  • A curtain rod can also be used for a more sheer curtain during warm times to allow fresh air through your screen door, yet allow some extra privacy.

    I like the idea!

Honestly, it made a huge difference. I'm still considering some kind of quilted curtain held in place with velcro. I may do the same for my corner bed that's up against 2 walls.
  • We have already purchased the tension rod to go in front of the sliding glass door to the garage. We will be getting an insulated curtain to insulate that area from the living room soon.
  • I haven't done it yet, but I saw a great idea on here 8 or 10 years ago in the camper forum I think.

The idea was to add thin Plexiglas on the inside of the screen door in sections and hold it on with mirror clips.

Someday soon I will be doing this.
  • We had some cooler nights on our northern trip. We had a tension rod and a long blanket. Put the tension rod between the cupboards and hung the blanket over the tension rod right up close to back wall of the camper. Made a noticeable difference in inside temperature. In the morning it just got taken down and stored away again. Not a permanent fix, but when you are on the road you make things happen with things on hand.

Reflectix cut to size and secured in place with Velcro. Campers have been using it for years. :B
