I traveled through and stayed in states that don't allow double towing. This was while I was pulling a
Smart Trailer , and was never stopped during the years I did this. I never assumed the trailer was part of the 5th wheel since it is easily removable, like the Idaho Tote. Mine attached with a double ball, and the Idaho Tote attaches with a couple bolts. Both of which are temporary attachments.
The real test will come if you get stopped by a LEO and how he feels about it. I never got stopped but I realized it could happen.
