Downsizing

I would much rather have a rig that is "more" than I need than a smaller rig that has less than I need.

"hubby works thru a lot of weekends" Will a smaller trailer change your hubbies work schedule?

I personally would advise you to stay with what you have.

We have owned our RV for 8 years. For 2 of those years, it sat almost unused, but we kept it for better times. In 2010, we were taking care of DW's Father while he died. In 2013, we were taking care of my Mother while she died. The RV went out very few times those two years.

Glad we kept it for those times when we COULD go out.

With an 8yo, keep it and camp when you can. It will make memories he will never forget, even if you don't do it often.

Sounds like a waste of money to me. If Hubby is working lots of weekends and you're barely using it then why have it? If you only go camping occasionally then why have a big trailer?

Only thing downsizing does is make it easier to get into places. That's the only reason I'd downsize.

May or may not save money depending on what, if any, you owe on it.

I went from a truck camper to a 22' 5th wheel to a 30' 5th wheel. After this summer, I'm getting rid of the 30' 5th wheel. It's too damn big to be practical for the type of RVing I like. Haven't used it in some years and *rough it* with my small van instead. The van gets me where I want to go; I cannot take the 5th wheel to those places.

Point being, buy the rig that will suffice for where and how you want to camp. I don't want a towable any longer and will likely get rid of the current van, truck, and 5th wheel for a fully self contained Class B.

With me, from my first Class A to the present one (6 total), it was always about upgrading.
We tried downsizing in brick houses, sold both houses and other properties, and we tried fulltiming. It didn't work for us.
Lately, I've been wishing I had been born a sure-enough true minimalist. I've got too much stuff, for my age.
But, if I had the cash, there's no telling how much I would spend on a new 45 ft luxury motorcoach.......:B

money is not an issue on this unless the sell/trade was insanely ridiculous and no we haven't run numbers yet. this is ALL pre-thinking on our part.

In the summer we take 3 big beach trips. hubby gets alot of time off and we blow those days on long long beach vacation trips since kid out of school. enjoy the heck out of it---but honestly we have done those trips in a 28 ft travel trailer, a 32 ft fifth wheel and now in a 40 ft toyhauler :) we had fun in all.

I appreciate those sharing their story of why they changed their rig. That is what I wanted, to hear why you did what you did and how it turned out for you in the end.

If you down size, will use it any more, than the current one ?
Work isn't going to change just because you bought a smaller camper

Is it paid for ? If not ... will down sizing reduce your payments ?

I think I would keep what I have, until there was a Need to change

Watching a smaller RV set in the drive way, is still going to break your heart, more so if it's newer

I have a cautious exception for downsizing: Storage. I can store a short "C" by parking it in a driveway. A trailer is prohibited, and a longer rig won't fit.

However, if storage or using the motorhome as a daily driver isn't an issue... I'd not worry as much about downsizing.
