- myredracerExplorer IIYeah well, pot used to be illegal too. Never thought I'd see the day when it got legalized. Maybe someday they'll throw away the rules of the road. Drivers continue to flaunt the rules regardless all over. Think of all the money they'd save on not having to pay police dept's. :R
Driving laws and regulations are a confusing thing. Why have them if they don't enforce them? Why post speed "limits" if it's perfectly okay to the cops to drive at 10 mph (or whatever the magic number is) over the "limit"? Maybe the signs should just say "suggested speed".
Where we live, I haven't seen cops doing any traffic enforcement for something like 10 years. They used to have a favorite spot nearby where they routinely had a radar trap. Seems like the message is, it's okay to ignore the rules and just do what everyone else is doing. However, if you're in an accident, expect the judge to scrutinize every rule in the Motor Vehicle Act you broke to apportion blame to you.
Anyway, sometimes when you're towing a TT, it's not practical to drive in the right lane(s) like say in and around large cities on freeways where there's a lot of on/off ramps and heavy traffic. Seattle comes to mind. I challenge anyone to not drive in the left lane there with all the constant stop/start traffic on I-5 through the city. Very hard on the TT brakes and the TV drivetrain. I'd rather chance a ticket and can always try the "but I'm a tourist from another country" excuse. :) - BoomerwepsExplorerIIRC, here in PA you can be ticketed for staying in the left lane for over 2 miles if you are able to move into the right lane safely. I've never worried about the exact distance because when not towing I often change lanes and when towing, I try to stay at 60-65mph on the interstates in the right lane. I prefer to not change lanes much while towing a TT.
- dcmac214ExplorerPosted this someplace before, forget where. Our oldest is - correction, was - a habitual left lane 10mph below posted limit driver. $280 ticket several months ago cured that habit. Oklahoma on I-44 on way to Tulsa.
- Ralph_CramdenExplorer III'm impressed.
- azrvingExplorerLike they say, it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Hopefully no else gets hurt and the self inflicted culling works.

Being proud of it? Where did that come from? I like to drive fast when I can do so safely. And fast is over 100 mph. If you say you like to fish, are you proud of it, or just a statement of fact? My statement was just that, not proud or ashamed, it just is.fj12ryder wrote:

you're insane for driving that fast. nothing to be proud of.

My 2011 DRW driving on I-10 AZ outside of Quartzite. AMAZING smooth solid ride, wife had no idea of the speed. No one around but us and sage brush! - drsteveExplorerBottom line... these laws would not be necessary if people used common sense.
- jplante4Explorer IIThe discussion on rampant disregard of the speed limit is exactly the point of this thread. It's fairly well known around here that you won't get pulled over for any speed less than 10 over, so the cruise control gets set to 9 over and all is well. Here on Cape Cod, there is exactly one section of US6 where people drive that speed - the section where the trooper sits at the rest area. Also, everyone knows that most LEOs won't get out of their cruiser in the rain unless it's a $200+ ticket.
And it's not limited to drivers. Bicyclist regular blow through stop signs ("I can't put my foot down!!!"). That doesn't prevent them from insisting that they have rights to the roadway. I have never seen an LEO stop a bicycle for stop sign infractions. Nothing bad happens, nothing is changed.
Blatant disregard and lack of enforcement is a problem, and if they don't enforce the laws, they should just remove them. This was the discussion in Mass last year about the wipers on-lights on law. Although most newer autos do this automatically, a large number do not. One of the local stations did a story on this and they called every municipal police dept in the state. In the year this was the law, NO tickets had been issued. After all, it's raining. - 1968mooneyExplorer

Men have always enjoyed "the need for speed"! Nice to hear you are enjoying it, when it is safe to do so. Watching high speed racing...cars, motorcycles, boats, go-carts, is an American pastime. While most of us don't have access to a closed course, there are safe options. Time passes quickly, while your only 69, best to do what you enjoy, while you can! I like enjoying my own thrills, rather than watching others on tv, or even at live events.

At 69, you have only a few years left. May as well leave this world doing what you love. Try not to take me with you. - MFLNomad II
