Revival of thread - Update:
It took our infamous ICBC a month to say yeah the drunk was at fault, go ahead and fix your truck. Actually they would not say anything about liability - they told me that they were now in a position to waive my deductible. When I asked about the impaired charges against the other driver they told me that they cannot comment on the liability of the driver due to legal something or other. What a croc of steaming smelly brown stuff! Very typical of our government monopoly mandatory insurance company....... grrrrrrr.......:M:M
I had to wait a bit for the bodyshop to source parts and schedule a time for the repairs to be done. I wanted the truck in the shop while I was vacationing in Arizona - that didn't work. They said bring it in Dec 10. OK, fine. I contacted a truck rental place, made the arrangements for a temporary truck, a one ton 14' flatdeck to put my rack and toolboxes on. And the guy at the bodyshop did the same and sent in the paperwork to have a truck waiting for me.
Another gong show...... I arrive at the bodyshop and they call the rental place to bring over my truck. Truck? What truck? We have no record of this request.... I utter a phrase I cannot post here and so does the guy at the bodyshop. The most intelligent thing they could come up with is to call back tomorrow and they would see if they could find something. WT*?
I take a deep breath and smile at the guy at the bodyshop and quietly exclaim " I think I will go have a coffee" Please call me if you need me. I wander off to Tim Hortons and order a coffee, only to find I am penniless. I emptied my pockets into the church coffers on Sunday and forgot to hit a cash machine after. Argh! Kind lady there smiled and bought me a coffee, like I was a homeless pauper or something.. I was in my work grubbies and looked a little "poor". I thanked her and told her I would be back to pay. I wander off and suck on my much needed coffee and visit the bank, pull out a hundred and go back and pay the kind hearted gal, order some breakfast and give her a heavy tip for being so nice.
Phone rings - Bodyshop there telling me they found a rental truck elsewhere. Ahhhh thanks. I go back to shop and they shuttle me over to rental place. I get out and my eyes get wide - an F-550 16 foot flatdeck?????? Really? I am carrying my rack and boxes, not a house!!!! Seriously, I can do with a 3/4 ton! F-550? Gads!
Whatever, I'll take it! Back to bodyshop and back my truck into hoist and lift off my rack, back flatdeck in and drop it on the deck - move stuff over and away I go.
Now I am not trying to put down Ford - they make great trucks, but this big lumbering barge sounds like a jackhammer at full throttle, or dragging a huge chain across a steel grate - what an obnoxious racket! And the smell! Gee whiz I cannot sit idle in this thing - the nasty diesel stench fills the cab - gag gag gag argh. The stains on the upholstery are likely from people puking on it from the foul diesel exhaust smell! This thing is really rancid!
OK, commercial plates - I am not allowed to park this thing in the street in a residential area, has to go in my driveway. Haul out a tape, just a tad under 27 feet overall. Expletive deletive, it won't go where my dually goes. It hangs 7 feet out into the street. OK, move my Cutlass and park it half on the front lawn - (sorry DW) and if I can pull it up on the sidewalk on the other side of the street I can get this behemoth into my driveway, 2 inches from my Cutlass on one side and 2 inches from my infamous trailer rebuild project on the other. I can make this work.
Man o man I cannot believe how bad this PSD stinks. I'm not saying this because I am a GM man, I know Ford makes great trucks, but seriously, this thing is LOUD and it really smells bad! Whoa! really bad!
This morning I go out and fire it up to warm a bit. Whew! Earplugs anyone. My phone rings.... It was Abraham Lincoln telling me I woke him up! Just kidding. I drop it in drive and it becomes twice as loud. I can't sneak away with this thing! My neighbors are going to shoot me!!!
Hey Ford owners - PSD folks - Is this normal?? Not sure what year it is, I never checked the reggie but it has to be fairly new. Maybe 4-5 years old. But there are a couple features I like better than my GM.... just not the noise and smell. Why is it so smelly and loud?
Oh yeah, I was updating on my truck getting fixed.
Once I got my rack and toolboxes off I found more hidden damage. Box sides are ripped from my 2000 pound rack going forward. Shop tells me they have to take the box off my truck to evaluate damage. Top of my box is in tough shape.
And I noticed that the body lines of the box to the cab are mis-aligned by about 3/4" - the box lines are lower. Hmmmm Why?
Now I am concerned about the insurance company totaling the truck. I really don't want it written off. It is paid for, it is the last of the classic series in 2007 with the LBZ engine. It runs like a dream and gives me no problems at all. I really don't want a newer truck. And I especially don't want the payments again. This has been the best truck I have owned since my 78 Chev 3/4 ton Camper Special. Nothing has ever beat that one.
Wish me luck everyone - I am gonna need it!!
