These are both excellent ideas!
This would mean completely revamping how I operate though. I do need my rack with its front outrigger for carrying lumber and long aluminum extrusions. Also my portable brake gets used in place on top of the rack. I also carry a number of stepladders, a 2 horse compressor and a bunch of other materials in the back of the truck.
I have to be able to maintain my own boxes, as they are quite large and have all custom made built in compartments for my trade specific tools and supplies.
It would be a fairly expensive venture to completely change everything.
But really a great idea though! :)
