dumping fresh water question

Apparently, the FACT that in sone states it is ILLEGAL just doesn't matter. If one does not agree with a law, it appears that ignoring it is acceptable.
A sad attitude, IMO. Even sadder is the fact that the attitude is likely passed to the children...

I disconnected the small 1/4" drains from my tanks. I have a TH and have over 100 gal capacity so it took all day to drail it when ready to leave. I tied into the 1 1/4" line that ties the two water tanks together and installed a tee and a valve. now it only takes about 10 min to drain before leaving. I usually only fill my tanks when boondocking and whatever we dont use does get dumped. water weighs 8.62lbs/gal so I have the potential of carrying an additional 800+ lbs down the highway on the way home when I dont need to.
I usually open the valve as Im leaving the site, on the road not the dirt site.

Ditto, I find it more convenient to use the head in the camper than a public rest room, I may want to use some water to wash my hands before fixing a meal or sandwich at a rest stop. I also like to add a few gallons of fresh water to the black tank to let it slosh around on the drive home. Unless you have some serious weight problems and need to dump water to get rid of some weight it is a good idea to leave some water in the tank.

I don't dump my water until I get home. I like to be prepared in case of an emergency such as a breakdown. I might not hook up to water and work off the tank for the last few days to lighten the load a little but it is not much of a consideration. And yes, I also think it is rude to spray other vehicles dumping water going down the road or leave the next person with a soggy site.

There's 70 MPH wind swirls all around the camper and an air vent on top of the tank.

The chance of some dirt and microbes getting inside of the tank is just about about 100%.

I don't live in fear of that and recognize that normally chlorinated water or even the standard bleach treatment will handle it.

But despite what you think- there's a high probability of a little stuff getting inside of the tank for the remaining ?? hours of your trip after the tank drains.

It's a valid assumption. There are lots of folks here opposed to hauling the water home, and I'm pretty certain that reducing weight and increasing fuel effeciency is on their mind.

That's exactly what happens. Drivers and/or Police see anything draining from an RV or a Truck and they assume that something is not right.

Perception of a thing can often do more damage than the thing itself....

You bring it in you take it back out is that so hard to understand.

I call it rude. Whether it's clean water or not. I guess no different if I take a bottle of water and let it hang out the window and let it go. No, more than likely it will not hurt the vehicles, but it's just plain rude. Pump it into your black or gray tanks and dump it all at the dump station on your way out. Or as others mentioned, take it home and drain it onto your driveway or water your grass with it.
