We seem to be encountering more and more campgrounds that have a 2-3PM checkout. Since we only travel 200-250 miles per day and like to be off the road by 2-3PM, we are arriving before check-in time more often. The few times that I have been asked to pay extra, I just turn and say I will wait as I walk toward the door. Usually, they will make a statement about checking to see if the site is open. A couple of times the office staff have come out to the RV parked in their staging area and said the site was open and we could go in. I haven't paid extra, but I have had to wait to get to my site which in one case I know was still occupied because I could see the rig pull out from where we were parked.
