A 2500 lb tongue jack is likely to have a 2" shaft, a 3500 lb would in most cases have a 2.25" shaft ... considering the size of the OP's trailer surely it would have a 2.25" hole in the A frame. JMO, but it doesn't make any sense whatsoever to go with the lighter jack, particularly when the price difference is so insignificant. Just two years use out of power tongue jack? ... that would be news to me, I've been running power tongue jacks for years and haven't had any permanently self destruct. Yes, my UltraFab dropped the lower shaft one time when a locking pin backed off but I simply put it back in using Locktite and never had any further issues with it at all. If there is any recommendation I would have it would be to cover the tongue jack head with a cover to minimize discolouration of the head (which in many cases is plastic) from the effects of the sun and to prevent water from getting inside the head. If you have a tailgate interference problem look for a tongue jack on which the head itself can be rotated 180 degrees relative to the shaft ... the UltraFab series would be a good example. The head on my current LCI tongue jack does not rotate and it's a real PITA as it interferes with the tailgate on my Avalanche which is taller than most 1/2 ton truck tailgates. I'd swap it for another UltraFab but (unfortunately) the LCI continues to run just fine, giving me little justification to spend the $$$. ;)
