@wa8xym -- I assume that the method you detail running heavy duty cables to the battery is if I want a larger inverter like my original example? But that for a small inverter the method I outlined at the power center would work and be safe?
@pianotuna -- I'm feeling a bind here; the way I'd prefer to wire this at the power center requires a small inverter: 150W or less. If I have Apple gear it needs to be a PSW inverter. Morningstar doesn't make such a beast.
Summary: it's looking like the only way to get what I wanted is to run cables from the battery under the chassis and up into wherever I want to put the inverter. This is a more elaborate project than I anticipated... but I guess doing it right usually isn't easy, huh?
