If head is torqued WAY too tight it would cause an increase in side load at the pins when turning but wouldn't think enough to cause bending.
It's been normal on every one I have seen in the "wild". 10 years on one set of pins seems to be more abnormal.
It's not so much the side load as how the pins sit in the bracket with the retaining pin below the L bracket. I thought from day one they should be retained above the bracket somehow, and now they are.
