Equilizer L-Bracket Moving

I’ve had my rig out about 5 times with my new Equilzer hitch with no issues. On my last trip, I noticed the L-bracket on the driver’s side had moved a bit and was sitting at an angle. I though “no problem” and moved it back into position and re-torqued the bolts to spec. I drove a while and stopped to check everything out and noticed it had moved again. I’ve re-torqued it several times and seems it still wants to move on the one side. I can’t see anything binding and it’s been fine in the past. Any ideas?

  • Mine has never moved. I would make sure that the L-bracket is in full contact with the frame. If the top or bottom is tighter that the other end it might not have enough friction to hold it in place. Also make sure you have the proper torque.
  • I don't own an Equal-i-zer hitch, but I always wondered how those brackets were supposed to stay in place. I thought they probably had a tendency to move.

  • The same thing happened to mine. On mine, the side of the A-frame is not flat and whatever friction existed soon was not enough. The bracket did not make full contact from top to bottom along the frame. Without full contact friction, it moved back. I through bolted the bracket to the frame at the center and never had a problem since.
  • Have you checked the tightness on the hitch head that holds the stabilizer bars? There is a bolt on the underside of the hitch head for the drivers side and another for the passenger side. This may be a long shot, but maybe the drivers side is too tight, which in turn is putting too much friction on the L bracket.
  • I put small tack welds on the sides of each bracket when I had my EQ. 2-1/2 years and it never moved.
  • I'd call the manufacturer. I have the Equal-i-zer also and don't have a clue as to what might be the problem. I've never had it.
