One thing I've considered in light of this thread is the possibility of placing the picnic table under an emergency exit window at night.
Getting out an emergency exit window is definitely an acrobatic challenge and there is are pretty good odds that I'd get hurt during a hasty escape. Having the picnic table under the emergency exit at night would likely save from having a couple broken bones.
I am going to definitely try this out next time I am camping.
