Take a look at axle weights (Expedition) with and without the trailer. Specifically the front axle. See how much weight the trailer is taking off the steering axle. Main purpose of a WD hitch, is to restore some, and in some cases, all of that lost weight.
Too lite on your steering axle, makes the whole setup less stable. The pivoting between trailer coupler and hitch ball increases, front end of tow vehicle is more susceptible to movement from wind, trailer, and bad road conditions, and slightest hand movement (even subconscious) can make the trailer wiggle.
