Expired Warranties

Why do so many people expect manufacturers to "do the right thing" and give them special treatment by giving them something for free after their product's warranty has expired? I frequent many different types of online forums and I find this phenomenon to be most common here, on RV.Net.

Why would somebody expect a manufacturer to give them warranty service on an out-of-warranty product, and then, when they don't get it, they come on here and bad mouth the company and product for no other reason than them just not getting their way -- getting something for nothing?

I realize that some companies will give a freebie here and there, but this really should not be expected, or the only factor of whether a company or product is good or not.

Why do so many people expect free stuff?

  • It may also have to do with spending so much money on poor quality products. I think rv's certainly fit in that category.
  • I agree with most of your post.

I respectfully disagree with "so many." We just read about the very vocal minority here.

I find it amusing that a person actually expects warranty type of service when the unit was bought used, with NO warranty to start with. What part of "as is" did they not understand? Did they read the contract?

No matter how outrageous, sometimes ,I guess, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I believe it is because the government gives free handouts without thought to funding or consequences, the people expect the same treatment from the private sector. They "forget" that the private sector operates on a finite amount of cash.

And for some mysterious reason, it seems to me that the older the person gets, the more freebies they think they are entitled too.
