Jim (and others) only true if the wife / woman does all the cooking. When we travel, we share cooking. When we're home, we share the cooking. We share cleaning, shopping, etc BUT only I maintain my truck :) :)

We both love the travel/camping etc - but Genie has other commitments which occasionally interfere with our travel-dates ... so we adjust.

I suggest anyone with that kind of on-the-road problem give it thought and come up with alternatives that work for both, without 'victimizing' one or the other.

No, it doesn't take much trying to know that I married my wife, not my friends. After probably 40 years of working and the statistical probability of dropping dead before his wife the op deserves to ride off and live the retirement dream.


I have a work friend who has a similar situation because his wife just cant leave the grand kids. 66 years old, 20 acres, pond, built in pool, 4 bed house, John Deere tractors, huge lawn, pole barn, 2 cars, diesel truck, AND a FW that's been sitting next to the pole barn and never moved. It got new carpet in it because she didn't like the color but it cant roll anywhere. He cant quit working because she wont downsize and consolidate. He's also getting a pension. Grand kids do need their own rooms when the come to visit. They have to have a pool and a pond to play in. Well, maybe dont call it visit, maybe call it built in babysitter.

x neighbor is 70 and cant go to Fl for more than a month because his wife has to see the grand daughter. Well, again maybe it should be called built in babysitter. Pull the new TT through the salty slop all the way to Fl and stay for 3 weeks then haul butt back through the slop. Why bother, why spend $28,000 and park it after dragging it 2,800 miles and 4 weeks of use? Kiss my.

Nothing wrong with doing it how they want, we each choose our own way but my kids had their turn with me, now it's my turn. We are expecting our first Grandchild in March and we'll be there. Then we'll be gone and let them take their turn at raising their child. They had the kid so they will be paying the $1,200 a month in day care. They enjoyed the foreplay and the sex and the joy of it all, why would I give up my "Golden" years to babysit? If the wife wants to stay maybe I can have someone ride share with me and see the country. That person wouldn't be too hard to find.

Well, that is the beauty of it all, we each get to choose our own way but wifes girlfriends are pretty low on the list and pretty disposable when it comes to living the last years of my life. I cant remember the issue the wife and I were going round about but I told her I was going to get a bumper sticker for her side of the dashboard.

"GET IN, HOLD ON, AND SHUT UP"

She's still sitting over there and becoming a pretty dang good co pilot too!

There you go. It could be a cheap easy option and they would get to see some new places.sometimes you just have to throw money at problems and they go away.

The OP has a pretty roomy 5W, so maybe the DWs BFF could fly in for a visit during the trip.

Breaking the trip up into parts might be a good compromise.

This is exactly what we did for a long "see the country" trip. I was happy in the coach, but Mrs O didn't want to be out that long "away from everyone".

So we did it in three stages. Parked the rig up for the intervening months, once in a farmer's big shed in Ontario, and then in an indoor storage place in Raleigh NC. Flew back and forth, jumped back in the rig and continued the adventure.

Turned out that probably the wife's plan was the better one.

Sometimes Genie flies to meet me, sometimes Genie flies home if something comes up. Sometimes we spend months together on the road.

I like on-the-road road much longer than she does - so it works for us quite well. Makes it easier to make the longer returns too, as I boon-dock much more when alone, and Genie doesn't like the boon-dock as much.
