F150 4x4

Thanks for all the info and the notation that I needed to add more info. So here goes, it is a 2010 F150 Supercab 4x4, it has a "trailer towing package" (under the standard equipment on the sticker)not Heavy Duty Payload Package, 3.73 electronic lock RR axle, 7200 GVWR package, but I can't seem to find the RAWR, nor can I find the GVWR for the fifth wheel, but Jerry (above) says it around 1500 lbs. Really appreciate all the info and knowledge on this site so comments are hoped for and welcome.

It would be an EXTREMELY rare 5er that would be capable of being towed by any 1/2 ton pickup. Maybe a Scamp 19' model. They weigh in about 2400# with a 400# pin weight dry.

You don't have the HD payload package. If you did the tow rating would be closer to 11,200 lbs.

The specs say much more than go up to 9700 pounds....payload, max for tires, max for rims, max for axels etc. Learn more about your truck and disbelieve any salesperson saying “you can tow anything on the lot.” You can’t....I can’t with my Tahoe.

Keep in mind a gvwr based payload number on some new gen high gvwr F150 trucks can overload the trucks rawr that load all in the bed. Just keep under the trucks RAWR as its carrying all the load in the bed.

With no numbers we can only guess if the combo is a good match.

We need the trucks GVWR and RAWR and Fords tow rating.
And we need your trailers GVWR.

As one reply mentions the F150HD (heavy duty) can have a 7850-8200 gvwr with 4800 RAWR. If thats the case its good for carrying up to around 2400-2500 lbs before exceeding rawr.

Don't forget you could also overload the rear axle (and likely tires + wheels) and still come in under the total payload number on the sticker.

OP, since you have the HD Payload Package, please post the door sticker's payload capacity.
It'll say "passengers and cargo should not exceed xxxxlbs."

With a 5th wheel, it's all about pin weights vs payload capacities..

Yes, it is the payload where you will likely come up short. That FW has a dry pin wt of near 1,500 lbs and even lightly loaded would be 1,750. If you add the weight of a FW hitch another 150 lbs. Your door jam tire loading sticker will have a max payload wt...do not exceed xxxx. Exceeding this will put you over the trucks GVWR. Going much over that rating, will put you over the RAWR.
The numbers are on your truck, so you can do the numbers.

With a gross weight over 9800 you have almost 2,000 on the hitch, far too much for any F-150. That is at the upper end for my 2500.

To expand a little more... with fifth wheels, it's not your max towing capacity that is of concern - it's the payload of the truck after it's full of fuel, has the hitch installed, and has all occupants and "stuff" in it. Forget the dry weight of the trailer. Look at the GVWR on the trailer sticker and calculate 23% of that to estimate loaded pin weight for the fifth wheel. The loaded pin weight of that trailer will likely be around 2,000 lbs. I doubt a 2010 F150 supercab 4x4 has that kind of payload left over.
